US 12 near Forsyth remains the slowest drive in the region, with flaggers, single-lane traffic and a 14-foot width limit on the timber bridges project. Closer to Billings, work on West Main Street in Laurel and sidewalk work on US 310 through Bridger are both listed to end Friday, Nov. 13, and shoulder work on Interstate 94 east of Terry is listed through Sunday, Nov. 15.

Billings and Yellowstone County

West Main Street in Laurel has a 25 to 35 mph speed limit through the work zone. Watch for workers and equipment near First Avenue and Main Street, where final electrical work began Sept. 29. Montana 511 lists the work from June 22 through Friday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. Ends this week.

Interstate 90 and Interstate 94 in Yellowstone County had no work zones listed on Montana 511 as of Thursday, Nov. 5.

Carbon County

US 310 in Bridger, from milepost 25.7 to 26.2, has sidewalk work in town, with workers and equipment near the highway and a posted speed limit of 25 mph. Montana 511 lists it from Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 a.m. through Friday, Nov. 13, at 5 p.m. Started this week and set to end next Friday.

Highway S-308 west of Bearcreek, from milepost 5.5 to 5.7, has slide excavation work and a 35 mph speed limit. Watch for workers and equipment along the highway. Montana 511 lists the work from Aug. 24 through Monday, Nov. 23, at 5 p.m. Ongoing.

Interstate 94 east of Yellowstone County

I-94 from milepost 169.8 to 186.8, in the Terry area, has fencing work along both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Watch for vehicles and equipment on or near the shoulders, and for work vehicles entering and leaving the interstate from the shoulder. Montana 511 lists the work from Oct. 15 with an end date of Jan. 1, 2027. Ongoing.

I-94 from milepost 187.1 to 192.6, east of Terry, has shoulder work and construction signs. Montana 511 lists it from April 13 through Sunday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. No lane closure is posted. Ends this week.

Dawson County

MT 200S from milepost 307.0 to 307.2, northwest of Glendive, has alternating one-lane traffic controlled by signal lights. Montana 511 has listed it as an incident with blocked lanes since Oct. 2 and asks drivers to use caution. The cause and an end date are not posted. Ongoing.

Rosebud County

US 12 from milepost 228 to 260, the Forsyth-area timber bridges project, has flaggers, lane closures, a 25 mph speed limit and a 14-foot width limit, with delays of about 10 minutes, according to Montana 511. The listing also warns of loose gravel, asks motorcyclists to consider another route and flags a detour without describing it. It carries an end date of Friday, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m. In its most recent project update, dated Oct. 19, MDT said paving was finished and crews were turning to slope work, seeding and reclamation ahead of the winter shutdown, and that drivers should still expect reduced speeds, single-lane traffic and flaggers in active work areas. A shutdown date is not posted. Ongoing.

Wibaux County

Highway S-261 north of Wibaux, from milepost 13.61 to 27, has a long-term weight limit on the county-maintained portion of the road: 8 tons per single axle, 16 tons per tandem axle and 400 pounds per inch of tire width. Montana 511 lists it as in place since 2021 until further notice. Ongoing.

Later: The current 511 listings carry end dates of Nov. 23 for the S-308 slide work near Bearcreek, Dec. 11 for US 12 near Forsyth and Jan. 1 for the Terry-area fencing on I-94. In Lockwood, the Interstate 90 interchange at Johnson Lane will become Montana's first diverging diamond interchange, KULR-8 reported Oct. 29. Utility relocation is already underway, major construction is expected to begin in spring 2027 and the project is expected to take three construction seasons, finishing in summer 2029. MDT told the station that access to businesses will stay open, but drivers should expect changing traffic patterns. MDT's proposal to replace three bridges on Old Highway 10 between Terry and Miles City has construction tentatively planned for 2027.
