Election week leaves Eastern Montana's local boards with a light calendar. Custer County commissioners open bids for a new landfill scale Monday afternoon in Miles City, and Rosebud County commissioners hold a board meeting Thursday in Forsyth. The Custer and Rosebud county courthouses close Tuesday, Nov. 3, for the general election, and the Dawson County Commission has moved its regular meeting to Nov. 10, when it will hold two public hearings on land use rules.

Custer County

Board of Commissioners

Commissioners are in session Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, according to the week's agenda; the commissioners' office is at 1010 Main St., Suite 22, Miles City. The courthouse is closed Tuesday for Election Day, though the election office will be open.

The rest of the week's agenda is administrative work, minutes, agenda setting and outside meetings. Public comment is taken each day under "Unscheduled Matters," and the commissioners' office can be reached at (406) 874-3343.

Miles City City Council

No Miles City council, committee or zoning board meetings are listed for this week on the city's meetings page. The council's next regular meeting is listed for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10; its agenda had not been posted.

Dawson County

Board of Commissioners

The commission's regular first-Tuesday meeting will not be held Nov. 3. The county's agenda page says the meeting has moved to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, "as regular scheduled meeting is General Election Day." Details of that meeting are under "Further out" below.

Glendive City Council

The city's agendas page lists a regular council meeting for Tuesday, Nov. 3, which is Election Day. The council meets the first and third Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 300 S. Merrill Ave. No agenda had been posted. In 2020 and 2024, the same page shows, the council's early November regular meeting was held on the Monday before the general election. Residents can confirm the date on the agendas page or on the City Hall door, where the city says agendas are posted. Council meetings stream live on the city's YouTube channel, @CityofGlendive.

Rosebud County

Board of Commissioners

The commissioners' agenda for Nov. 2 to 6 lists a board meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5. The agenda does not give a location; the commissioners' office is at 1251 Main St., Forsyth. The only items are on the consent agenda: claims and approval of the October minutes. The courthouse is closed Tuesday, Nov. 3, for the general election.

The agenda also lists a Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority community meeting at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at City Hall. It does not say which city.

The commissioners accept public comment on any day on matters within their jurisdiction; the office number is (406) 346-2251.

Prairie County

Board of Commissioners

The commission's Oct. 28 agenda lists its next regular meeting for 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in the Commissioners' Room at the Prairie County Courthouse, 217 Park St. W, Terry. Its recent agendas have been for Wednesday meetings. The agenda for Nov. 6 had not been posted; it will appear on the county's commissioner agenda page. To get an item on the agenda, residents contact Chair Todd Devlin at least 72 hours before the meeting, and public comment is limited to three minutes per speaker.

Treasure County

Board of Commissioners

Treasure County commissioners' posted agendas mostly fall on the first and third Tuesdays, and the first Tuesday this month is Election Day. No agenda for a meeting this week had been posted on the county's commissioners page, where agendas, minutes and audio are listed by date. Meetings are held in the Treasure County Courtroom in Hysham, and the county can be reached at (406) 342-5547.

Further out

The Dawson County Commission will hold two public hearings at its rescheduled meeting, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Glendive: one on an amendment to the county's development regulations and one on an amendment to the subdivision regulations shared by Dawson County, the City of Glendive and the Town of Richey. The updated development regulation draft, labeled a planning board recommendation, would set a 250-foot maximum structure height across the county outside Glendive, Richey and the Forest Park and Highland Park zoning districts, and lays out standards for variances and a process for appeals. Separately, the Bureau of Land Management is taking comments through Monday, Nov. 9, on a proposed Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks fishing access site on the Yellowstone River near Terry, through the BLM's ePlanning site.
